Long Beach Alumnae was chartered on February 23, 1986 as the 763rd chapter
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with thirty-one members.

     

The ceremony was conducted by Farwest Regional Director Gwendolyn Bishop. The Charter Members are Ruby Mims,  Virginal Brown Barnes, Joan Hamlin Matthews, Marilyn Williams, Margaret Ophelia Brown, Cheryl Blair Melton, Mary Walker-Wilton, June Cloudy Bolden, Patricia Owens Hill, Martha Carroll Dauway, Shirley Crowe-Massey, Marsha Woods, Shirley Broyles Dye, Marietta Summers Palmer, Shern Andrea Bonner, Doris Cooper Robinson, Patricia Ann Lee, Stephanie T. Hawkins, Eugenia Gaston Reeves, Charlotte Berry, Gertrude Moore Hawkins, Geneva Green Ray, Clarissa Manuel, Julie Hamilton Johnson, Sabrina Whitten, Patricia Slaughter Jernigan, Donna Elaine Morris, Evelyn Robertson, Shirley Bowman, *Genevieve Trotter White, *Verna Thompson Winston. The chapter serves the greater Long Beach area. Our endeavors address the sorority’s Five-Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The chapter’s programs include our annual scholarships awarded to local high school students, Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Alcohol, Drug Abuse and AIDS Community Education workshop (ADACE), annual holiday drives including the Thanksgiving Basket program and Christmas Toy Drive.  We continue to develop and expand our relationship with the African American Infant Health Program, Carmelitos Housing Community, Barton Elementary School, NAACP and other programs throughout the Long Beach area.

There are currently seventy financial members in the Long Beach Alumnae Chapter.
