President’s Message
Greetings!
I am honored to serve as the 10th President of Long Beach Alumnae and I welcome you to the website of Long Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a public service organization founded on Christian principles by twenty-two college educated women on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913. On February 23, 1986, Long Beach Alumnae Chapter was chartered by thirty-one visionary members and Long Beach Alumnae became the 763rd chapter.
The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter has been dedicated to providing public service for over 25 years to the greater Long Beach area which includes: Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, and Paramount and sharing Seal Beach, Bellflower, and Los Alamitos.
Our membership is comprised of over 100 members who are diverse in age, background, skills and profession; but we all share the common bond of sisterhood, scholarship and service. Our service projects are based on the sorority’s National Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
Economic Development
Educational Development
International Awareness and Involvement
Physical and Mental Health
Political Awareness and Involvement
Some of Long Beach Alumnae Chapter’s programs are the: Dr. Betty Shabazz Academy for girls 11-14 yrs., Delta GEMS program for
girls 14-18 yrs., annual ADACE (Alcohol, Drug Awareness and Community Education) seminar, Financial Aid Workshop, Thanksgiving basket giveaway, Christmas toy drive, Adopt-A-School, participation in the annual Long Beach Martin Luther
King, Jr. Parade and more.
We are also known for our signature fundraising events – Literary Arts Café and Prayer Breakfast & Silent Auction. Long Beach Alumnae Chapter would love for you to join us at any of our events or programs. We encourage your support and monetary donations are always welcomed to assist us in continuing to provide impactful programs and in granting scholarships to deserving students pursuing higher education.
Long Beach Alumnae is proud of the service that we have provided to the greater Long Beach community for the past 27 years and we look forward to continuing our service for years to come.
