President’s Message

On January 13, 1913 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in their communities. Today Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has over 250,000 members and more than 900 chapters worldwide. The Sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement to create its national programs.

The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter will celebrate 25 years of service on February 23, 2011.  The chapter’s purpose is to serve the greater Long Beach community in the areas of our established Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.  With sisterhood as the foundation, scholarship and service as the focus, the members of Long Beach Alumnae Chapter are committed to service as we follow in the footsteps of our Founders.

Long Beach Alumnae Chapter has hosted an array of community service project such as:

  • Delta Academy / GEMs program – we mentor young girls between the age of 11-18
  • Thanksgiving basket give-a-way
  • Fall and Spring Fundraisers
  • Give scholarships to graduating High school seniors
  • Alcohol Drug and AIDS Community Awareness Program (ADACE)
  • Toy Drives
  • Partner with other community organizations in serving the community
  • Donate to women shelters
  • And the list goes on

Delta women are the catalyst to change in the community in which they live.  We’re the educators, the medical professionals, the political servants, the financial and technical experts, the lawyers, law enforcement agents, and the entrepreneurs that interact with you on a daily basis.  Great women such as Barbara Jordan, Dorothy I. Height, Alexis Herman, Sherly Lee Ralph, and Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, name you may or may not be familiar with, have impacted not only Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. but the human kind.

Thank you for visiting our website.  Please come back often, as we will continue to have updates on our current programs and initiatives.  Join us as we strive to better the lives of those we serve in our community.

Sincerely,

Adriene L. Gray-Allen

Chapter President, 2010-2012
