Greetings:
Over 20 years in the greater Long Beach area and Long Beach Alumnae Chapter is still going strong. My name is Maleika Walker and I am the 8th president of the Long Beach Alumnae Chapter here in the beautiful city of Long Beach, CA. I’d like to personally welcome you to our website.
In 1986, thirty-one members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chartered this chapter with the purpose of reaching out and providing service to the community. Our purpose is to serve the greater Long Beach community in the areas of our established Five Point Thrust program (Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical & Mental Health, and Political Awareness & Involvement). With sisterhood as the foundation, scholarship and service as the focus, the members of Long Beach Alumnae are committed to service as we follow in the footsteps of our beloved Founders.
With over 70 members, Long Beach Alumnae is involved with several programs and projects in the greater Long Beach area. The chapter’s programs include our annual scholarships that are awarded to local high school students, Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully), Drug Abuse and AIDS Community Education workshop (ADACE), annual holiday drives including the Thanksgiving Basket program and Christmas Toy Drive. We continue to develop and expand our relationship with the African American Infant Health Program, Carmelitos Housing Community, Barton Elementary School, Academic Up Rise, NAACP and other programs throughout the Long Beach area.
Our web team has worked diligently to ensure your stay on our site is pleasant and enjoyable. You’ll find information about our national organization, chapter history, local programs, and upcoming events. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay here on our site. And I look forward to seeing you at one of our many events/programs.
Yours truly,
Maleika
